This is the interior of the Presidio La Baha where the first Declaration of Texas Independence was signed on 12-20-1835. It is one of the oldest churches in America and the only building in existence that still has its original "groin vaulted ceiling" still in place. After Colonel Fannin's men were defeated and surrendered at the Battle of Coleto Creek they were held captive in this chapel before being executed. The fresco behind the alter was finished in 1946 by Corpus Christi artist, Antonio Garcia.
